There is pre-class homework for the two week intensive oec class.  The purpose of the homework
is to encourage you to read the textbook and do the workbook in  a timely fashion. You can certainly circumvent the homework, but remember that you have to pass the written test on the textbook at the first class meeting.

You  can comply with the homework requirement in a number of ways:

1.  For students who are going to do the online quizzes on the class web site, http://oectools.org/class/13377/ you will comply with the pre-class homework requirement by completing the quizzes in a timely manner.  No other action is required. This is the recommended option. Once you have completed the quizzes, go into the quiz program a second time but, this time, click "Key" rather than "Begin" and you will see your graded test. This option implies reading the  textbook in the order of the class syllabus rather than in chapter order. Because the questions are organized by session rather than chapter. I'll be working to shorten the quizzes, hopefully staying ahead of you.

2.  For students whose computer acces is limited.. The class discussion group has a file "workbook  answer sheet 2007.pdf" which contains eight answer sheets for recording the answers to the  multiple choice questions in the workbook.   Print them out or email me and I will mail you a copy. Complete each answer sheet by the due date and mail them to me at:

3   For students with a computer with Microsoft Office. (alternate approach) The class discussion group has a file workbook answer sheet 2007.xls which contains eight answer sheets for recording the answers to the multiple choice questions in the workbook. Record your responses in the excel
workbook and send me a copy of your workbook on each of the four due dates.

For options 2 & 3, the answers to the questions are in the back of the workbook, so check your answers before you send them to me.  Each answer sheet has the due date on it. Of course you can just copy the answers to the sheet but it won't help you pass the written exam.

The schedule for submitting the workbook pages for opptions 2 & 3 is:

  • Chapters 1-8 Oct 13, 2007
  • Chapters 9-16 Oct 27, 2007
  • Chapters 17-24 Nov 10, 2007
  • Chapters 25-31 Nov 24, 2007

The multiple choice questions, especially those in the workbook only test a small part of the chapter content. You should complete the workbook to ensure that you have the knowledge to pass the written exam on the textbook.

"Final Exam 2006-2007" on the online quizzes is probably the best assessment of your ability to pass this year's final written exam.  Id save taking it until you have finished the reading.
