Quickie OEC Course
- Piedmont CA Nov 14 & Nov 15;8am-5pm
- Truckee CA Dec 13 & Dec 14; 8am-5pm
- For experienced professionals who are confident of their on-snow skills and their "book learning."
- You must prepare extensively for the course with a mentor, an active patroller whom you identify.
- You must have reasonable email availability, web skills and internet availability. (the library is not enough)
The Ground Rules:
- You will be tested together with students from full OEC courses. You will be evaluated by the same evaluators to the same standards as the folks taking the full course. However, participants in the full course have re-test opportunities. You do not.
- For you, everything on Dec 13 & 14 is sudden death. There are no re-tests. You must do CPR and all the skills correctly. You must get 75% on the written exam and 80% on each of the four scenarios on the practical examination. You must complete all Critical Performance Indicators (CPI) on each of the scenarios. One strike and you are out. Then your only route to an OEC card is a full OEC course next year.
- National provides the written exam and the answer sheet. Sorry, the answers are not negotiable.
- You MUST prepare for class with a mentor who is an active patroller. Preparation is a BIG DEAL. You must be proficient at all the skills on the check-off sheets done the way the support materials indicate. You must be able to do the four scenarios correctly. If you have not patrolled before, plan on this taking at least 30 hours before December 8.
- You must bring a fully equipped first aid pack or vest with four LARGE
(72") cravats. See the menu item at the left. We can provide you pack contents
(except for cravats) for our cost.
- You must support your patients with the contents of your patrol pack or vest for the first ten minutes or so. You must call for help and additional equipment within 3 to 5 minutes. You can only call for the items on the Radio Call Sheet.
- Your skills and treatments must follow the information in the support materials.
- You have to understand the evaluation sheet used for the final practical exam and how to "work the system" so that the evaluator will check all the right boxes, especially the CPI boxes.
- You MUST have BOTH a patroller mentor/assistant & a patient present for both Dec 13 & Dec 14.
- You must show Version 4 OEC textbook & OEC workbook on Dec 8.
